Goat Herder by the Oberblegisee
On the Oberblegi Alp there lies a lake. The place where the water flows into the lake is obvious, but where it flows out, this was only discovered by the goat herder from Leuggelbach who attempted to swim across. The farmer in his hut forbade the goat herder from doing so: «Don't be a fool! You shouldn't search for God, it's written in the holy scriptures.» But the goat herder retorted: «Should it please the Lord God or not, I wish to cross!» The farmer thought to himself, so be it and looked to where the herder was swimming. He had almost crossed the lake when he suddenly was pulled under.
At that same hour, his mother was fetching water from Leuggelbach. And what do you think plopped into her pail? It was the head of her son, who wished to swim across the lake.
