The  garden of Vreneli

There once lived a high-spirited young woman by the name of Vreneli. She desired to make a garden on the middle summit of the Glärnisch. People cautioned her against this, saying: «You better don't challenge God!» But she replied: «Now I'll go up there to prove the opposite, whether it pleases the Lord God or not.» At that point Vreneli, who was an exceptionally strong girl, hoisted a large copper kettle over her head so that she wouldn't get wet, should it begin to snow. But when she had reached the summit it began to snow so heavily that Vreneli could no longer bear the weight of the kettle. The damp, heavy snow pressed the girl to the ground, which was then completely blanketed with snow.

To this day, from a distance, you can see a small, four-cornered field of snow on the middle summit of the Glärnisch. People call this Vreneli's little garden because the arrogant gardener lies buried beneath.
